Abstract

929,812. Feeding buttons. ROCHESTER BUTTON CO. May 3, 1961 [Sept. 28, 1960], No. 16102/61. Class 78 (1). Buttons are thrown into inclined hopper 40 and are carried up and discharged thereof through exit 75 (and down shoot 74) by rotating disc 27 formed with pockets 30. Each pocket 30 has a pin 35 adapted to engage the hollow of a button so that buttons in the hollow-downwards position are carried upwards to the exit whilst buttons otherwise orientated fall back into the hopper. The disc is formed with agitators 25 and 34 to agitate the mass of buttons. Member 55 dislodges any button which rides on top of another. The exit 75 is controlled by gate 80 pivoted on shaft 77, the gate 80 being periodically displaced under the influence of roller 88 engaging the cam surface 87 formed beneath the disc. Thus, in Fig. 3, when roller 88 is displaced downwards by cam 87 as disc 27 rotates, gate 80 is displaced upwards to free exit 75 by the interaction of levers 92 and 95. Level limiting device 98, Fig. 5.-The shaft 77 which carries the gate 80 and is caused to rock by cam surface 87 carries rigidly finger 98 which projects into the shoot 74 into which the buttons from hopper 40 are directed. Normally the buttons travel down shoot 74, and finger 98 rocks into shoot 74 without affecting the movement of shaft 77. Should, however, there be so many buttons in shoot 74 that the finger 98 engages the topmost button then the rocking movement of shaft 77 is limited thereby, and gate 80 is held in the closed position till the level of buttons in shoot 74 falls.
