Abstract

<PICT:0929578/III/1> <PICT:0929578/III/2> A paper chromatography apparatus comprises a glass tank internally shaped to provide means for seating solvent troughs and anti-syphon rods. As shown in Fig. 2, a rectangular tank is provided with a series of internal shoulders along opposite sides of the tank, which shoulders are fitted with transverse grooves 3 and 4. The tank may be closed by means of a lid having a peripheral projection co-operating with a groove 5 which may be filled with liquid to form a seal. Alternatively, a foam plastic or resilient gasket may be inserted into the groove and a plane lid employed. Such a lid may be provided with holes directly above the solvent troughs through which addition of solvent is possible and when not in use may be closed by neoprene, rubber, polythene, glass stoppers or caps. The solvent troughs used may be generally U-shaped or circular in cross-section, the bottom being thicker than the walls; a reversible trough is shown in cross-section in Fig. 5c. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 873,880.
