Abstract

928,738. Snap-action switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 28, 1961 [Aug. 31, 1960], No. 30030/60. Addition to 832,831. Class 38 (5). The switch of the parent Specification, in which pairs of fixed contacts 9, 10 are bridged by spring-urged contact members 11 in one position of the dolly 4, is modified so that in the other position alternative pairs 8, 9 of the contacts are bridged by further spring-urged contact members 12. The dolly 4 co-operates with a hemispherical projection 3 to hold a spring-loaded insulating plunger 2 in either of the two stable positions. In an upper position of the plunger, contact members 11, mounted slidably on depending portions 6 of the plunger, are biased by springs 7 into engagement with fixed contacts 9, 10 by abutment with the underside of the plunger, while the contact members 12 are biased into engagement with contacts 8, 9 by leaf springs 12a. In a further modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the projection 3 is replaced by a steel ball seated in a suitable recess and the depending portions 6 are formed as metal inserts.
