Abstract
928,219. Airmen's harness. J. MARTIN. Jan. 27, 1960 [Jan. 27, 1959], No. 2946/59. Class 141. An airman's harness includes a pair of straps 12 for holding him down in his seat, each strap passing rearwardly over the wearer's shoulder, then downward diagonally across his back and terminating in rings 13 for releasable connection with the seat. In one embodiment, Fig. 4, the front end of each strap 12 is connected to the rear end of the other strap, whereas in Fig. 1 the front end is attached to the adjacent shoulder strap 3 of the parachute harness. The shoulder straps pass through shoulder buckles 2 and terminate in lugs 4 for attachment to a quick-release box 5. Rear and front lift webs 1, 7 also pass through the buckles 2. The front webs 7 also pass through slots in the lugs 4 and have at their free ends length adjusting buckles 9. The two buckles 9 are connected by a strap 10 passing through a member 11 to be attached to the back of the seat. The quick release box is provided on a waist strap 24 which extends round the back and one side of the wearer, being secured to the rear lift webs 1 and each has at its free end a lug 29 for connection with the quick release box. Lap straps 31 have lugs 32 at their rearward ends for releasable connection with the seat pan, the lugs first being passed through the rings 13 on the straps 12. The lap straps are attached to the lugs 29 on the outer leg straps and have length-adjusting buckles 33 at intermediate points. In a modification each lap strap is provided with a lug for connection with the quick-release box 5, one end of the strap having the lug 32 and the other end extending around the back of the wearer, and being fastened to, or integral with, the corresponding end of the other strap. Inner leg loops 34 attached to the lower ends of the rear lift webs extend upwardly between the wearer's legs, through rings 35 on the outer leg straps, and engage over the lugs 4 on the shoulder straps before these are attached to the quick release box. A back pad of canvas with a foam rubber filling is located on the wearer's back and has loops on its outer surface for retaining the overlying straps and lift webs. Specifications 640,520, 685,125, 711,234 and 848,208 are referred to.
