Abstract
928,058. Making grates; welding by pressure. H. STAPELMANN, [trading as STAPELMANN & CO. METALLVERARBEITUNGSWERK]. Dec. 12, 1960 [Dec. 12, 1959; Dec. 29, 1959], No. 42697/60. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). In a bar grate made by resistance welding the main bars are provided with notches for the cross-bars to be welded thereto, the faces of the cross-bars and of the notches to be welded being at an angle which is less than 90 degrees to the line of applied welding pressure or being curved. The grate may comprise cross-bars 2, Fig. 1, of square section, cross-bars 3 of triangular section or of rhombic or circular section. The angle of the notch may be smaller or larger than that of the point of the crossbar welded into it and the electrodes 8, Fig. 9, may be notched to receive the square bar 2 and also recessed to receive the main bar 1. After welding the material of the bar 1 closes about a square-bar and provides small projections on each side of a triangular bar. The electrodes supplied with direct current are coupled in paths to transformers rectifier units 11, Fig. 12, with similar polarities adjacent and the bar 1 is on insulation 10. The transformers may be connected to a threephase supply.
