Abstract

Thin ceramic bodies such as miniture capacitors, insulating plates, or ceramic resistors are produced by coating a flat base with a mixture comprising a pulverulent sinterable material and a binding agent, drying the mixture, removing the coherent layer, disposing a plurality of said layers or portions of said layers in face-to-face contact, pressing the laminate without deformation, and sintering the laminate. In one example 60 gms. of a mixture comprising 64% by weight clay, 18% by weight of potassium feldspar, and 18% quartz are mixed with 25 gms of a binder such as polystyrene, 200 ml of trichlorethylene, and 8 ml of a softener such as dioctyl phthalate. The resultant mixture is spread on to a number of glass plates and each coating is trimmed with a knife when dry, and pairs of the layers produced are pressed together with a roller, those faces contacting each other which initially contacted the glass. Plates are cut or stamped from the laminate and are later sintered. The materials may be presintered and other examples include the use of florites and titanates.
