Abstract

927,710. Barbed wire reels. D. S. GRIFFITH. Feb. 9, 1962 [Nov. 12, 1960], No. 38931/60. Class 99(2). A dispenser and collector for barbed wire, plain wire, cable or flexible hose pipes comprises a three cornered framework, one corner of which carries an axle 8 and wheels 9 for the transport of the dispenser and collector over the ground, another corner of which has the dual function of supporting and immobilising the dispenser and collector when on the ground and of providing a steering and propelling handle 6 when lifted from the ground, and the third corner of which carries an axle 11 for supporting interchangeably a reel for the dispensing of wire, and a spool for the winding in of wire. As shown the axle 11 carries angle iron members 17 attached to the axle by split pins 19 and secured to the opposite sides of a conventional wooden spool 20. A handle 12 is secured to the axle by split pin 13. Alternatively the axle may carry two X-frames made of angle section metal and having hubs by which they may be secured to the axle by split pins. The arms of the X-frames may be notched and apertured so that wires, strings or cables may be threaded from one frame to the other before winding begins so that the wound coil may be tied up by such wires, strings or cables. A pawl and satchet device may be provided on the axle.
