Abstract
A method of producing solutions having a high content of organic peroxides of the formula <FORM:0927619/IV(a)/1> in which each R represents an alkyl group, Ar an aryl or substituted aryl group and X hydrogen or the group <FORM:0927619/IV(a)/2> wherein Ar and R have the meanings given above is characterised in that a solution of such an organic peroxide in the hydrocarbon from which it is formed having a peroxide content of approximately 5 to 50% by weight is first distilled in a film evaporator of the usual construction, and the head product withdrawn therefrom is rectified in an after-connected distilling column of the usual construction, there being supplied to the head of the second column fresh hydrocarbon which may possibly contain impurities, for the purpose of producing a return flow and the sump product of the distilling column flows continuously to the head of the film evaporator. Peroxides specified include cumene-, p-cymene- and isopropylnaphthalene hydroperoxides, diisopropylbenzene mono- and/or di-hydroperoxide and dicumyl peroxide. Examples are furnished.
