Abstract

927,452. Coating metallic surfaces with nickel. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE D'EXPLOITATION DES MOYENS DE TRANSPORT (SIMOTRA). June 9, 1961 [June 10, 1960], No. 20967/61. Class 82. A process for the electroless deposition of nickel from a solution containing an alkaline hypophosphite and a nickel salt on to a surface which catalyses the reaction comprises withdrawing liquid from the bath and returning it immediately in a rapidly moving stream after the addition of make-up quantities of reagent and base fed continuously to the stream, the stream flowing throughout the plating period or at selected periods during the operation. As shown, the vessel 1 to be plated is mounted on rollers 2 in a stove 3 heated by an oil burner, steam, or hot air. The liquid from an overflow pipe 19 is circulated by a pump 17 through a recycling pipe 20 back to the vessel, fresh reagents being added from three injectors 21. A portion of the bath may be subjected to regeneration in the conventional manner, the amount being between 10 and 100% of that treated according to the invention.
