Abstract
927,304. Water scooters. J. POLLET. Aug. 2, 1961 [Aug. 3, 1960], No. 28072/61. Classes 113 and 114. A motor scooter chassis 5 is fitted with water skis 6, 7, and with floats 17, 18 to preserve buoyancy and stability at low speeds. The relative disposition of the skis and floats may be such that as the skis rise out of the water the floats also leave the water, or as shown, the floats may be raised, against the action of springs 28, either manually or by pneumatic jacks 25. The forward ski 6 which has a short keel (see Fig. 1, not shown), turns with the handlebars 15 for steering purposes, and its incidence is varied either automatically, by a spring, or manually by tilting of the handlebars acting via the bar 14 or a Bowden cable. The engine casing 2 and propeller transmission housing 8 may pivot about an axis 29 to clear underwater obstructions. The engine may also drive a compressor to charge an air reservoir 24, from which air is taken to operate the jacks 25, and to inflate the floats, where these are inflatable. A flap 27 may be fitted to operate the jacks 25 when the skis sink into the water. In a modification, only one ski is fitted, and a rudder is then provided.
