Abstract
927,029. Seed packages. M. H. ESTKOWSKI. Dec. 18, 1961, No. 45217/61. Class 94(1). A combined seed package and marker tab comprises a strip having a seed or seeds attached to it and designed to be thrust into the soil to a predetermined level to plant and mark the seed. A series of separable tabs may be formed by adhering a plastics sheet 15 to a porous strip 24, the former having recesses 16 in which seeds 18 are held by adhesive. A line 14 indicates the planting level and weakening grooves 28 facilitate separation. In other embodiments, the recesses need not extend above the strip 24 or the latter may be recessed to accommodate the seed and a plant growing medium, Fig. 4. Apertures in the tab above the strip may prevent soil build-up against the tab, Fig. 3 (not shown). A non-porous strip may cover the upper portion of the porous strip to prevent surface dry soil extruding moisture from the seed growing medium. Either or both strips may be water-soluble. In lieu of the porous covering, a coating may be applied to tabs having seeds secured to their surface, by dipping, Fig. 7.
