Abstract

A diaphragm for an electrolytic cell (see Group XXXVI), comprises a porous or perforated plate of titanium, tantalum, or zirconium metal which has a barrier layer provided by oxidation. The layer may be provided as described in Specification 869,865, and the plate may be formed by sintering or by etching or mechanically perforating a plate.
