Abstract

<PICT:0926759/IV(a)/1> A triangulated reinforcing network of continuous glass-fibre cord for strengthening rotatable articles has the rovings bonded together by a bonding agent impregnated in the cord to form a rigidified structure, the agent comprising a thermosetting phenol aldehyde resin, the glass fibres having a surface sizing of a material compatible with the bonding agent. In the manufacture of an abrasive wheel (Group XXIII) by the method of moulding disclosed in Specification 868,256 employing liquid or solid powdered resin binders, the bonding mixture may include small quantities of other resinous materials such as epoxy and vinyl resins, vinyl chloride, vinyl butral, vinyl formal, vinyl acetate and others and may contain cross-linking aids such as hexamethylene, tetramine or paraformaldehyde and suitable solvents or plasticizers, e.g. cresol, furfuryl alcohol, furfuraldehyde, or propylene sulphite. The condensation product of phenol with formaldehyde is the preferred binding resin.
