Abstract
926,750. Making shut-off cocks. NEUE ARGUS G.m.b.H. March 19, 1962 [May 17, 1961], No. 10466/62. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] In a method of making a sheet steel spherical plug for a shut-off cock the plug is fitted with a through flow sleeve but without bearing studs and comprises the steps of rolling and forming a piece of sheet steel into a spherical plug 1 having diametrally oppositely situated openings, welding a support plate or stud 3 to the interior of the plug at the place where ultimately a number of control spindle drive pins will project through the plug wall and parallel to the axis of the openings, inserting in the openings a through flow metal sleeve 2 which is retained by welding or rolling, finishing the surface of the plug and drilling holes for the drive pins. The plug assembly is retained in a shut-off cock comprising flanges 6<SP>11</SP>, housings 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and a neck 15 welded together. Plug centring plastic segments of e.g. P.T.F.E. are fitted e.g. glued to the upper internal portions of the housings and drive pins 4 inserted into the drilled end of a drive spindle 5, rotatable in the neck 15, project through the holes in the domed portion of the plug and engage the support plate 3. A plastic sealing sleeve 16 is fitted between the spindle and neck and a cover 17 is fitted on to the square head of the spindle and acts as a rotary limiting device in conjunction with an abutment on the neck. The end of the sleeve 2 of the plug 1 is sealed to the housing in a known manner by means of a spring-loaded rubber or plastic ring 9 assembly comprising piston elements 8, springs 10, a recessed ring 11 and a retaining circlip 12. A spring-loaded pressure ring assembly comprising a packing ring 13 and a spring 14 is fitted about the lower portion of the control spindle and within the bore of the neck 15.
