Abstract
926,738. Vehicle recovery units. MANN EGERTON & CO. Ltd. April 26, 1961 [July 18, 1960], No. 25002/60. Class 108(1). A recovery unit comprises a main frame having tubular members 6 secured to a cross-member 8 incorporating a vertical bearing which will receive a post on the wheeled towing frame 4. Two auxiliary frames having tubular members 11 are adjustably engaged in the members 6 and the members 13 secured to the tubes 11 and the members 9 secured to the tubes 6 co-operate to support rods 16 so that the tyres of the vehicle to be recovered can rest on the rods 16 and the plate members 18. Slots 15 in the members 13 and holes in the members 9 enable the rods 16 to be adjusted for tyre size. The main frame and auxiliary frames can be assembled under the vehicle and screws jacks 19 having pins 20 to engage the auxiliary frames are used to raise the frames and the car high enough to enable the towing frame 4 to be wheeled under the main frame. The jacks 19 are then operated to lower the main frame on to the towing frame. The pins 12 which lock the main and auxiliary frames together may be replaced by a longitudinal member having pins to engage the tubes, the longitudinal member being operated by a rod engaged by the pillar of the wheel unit 4 when it is engaged with the main frame.
