Abstract
926,683. Stereoscopie microscopes; zoom lenses. COOKE, TROUGHTON & SIMMS Ltd. Oct. 20, 1961 [Nov. 2, 1960], No. 37724/60. Class 97 (1). A stereoscopic microscope has a reversible optical system of variable magnification between the objective and binocular eyepiece. Thus, as shown in Fig. 3, in the light path between the single objective 1 and twin relay lenses 5 are disposed twin telescopes consisting of lenses 2, 3 and 4, of which the lenses 2 and 3 are differentially movable and lens 4 is fixed. The magnification of each telescope can vary from 1 to M so that when the telescopes are reversed a further magnification range of 1/M to 1 is provided, giving a total range of 1 to M<SP>2</SP>. The lenses of each telescope are mounted between discs 14, Fig. 4, which are rotatable by thumbpieces 8 attached thereto, a spring detent arresting the rotation when the telescopes have been reversed end for end. Lenses 3 are carried by a saddle 21, Fig. 5, which is attached to a slider 17, this slider being movable along the microscope axis by a rack-and-pinion mechanism 15, 16 on operation of external knobs 9. Such movement of the slider 17 causes simultaneous movement of a saddle 25, carrying the lenses 2, through the medium of a cam 19 which is pivoted to the slider and is spring-pressed at 24 against the saddle 25.
