Abstract

926,116. Indexing magnetic tapes. T. L. DAVIES. March 12, 1962, No. 9345/62. Addition to 805,487, as improved upon by 870,110. Class 40 (2). To provide incrementally spaced pulse signals on a tape to index it for selective stopping, as described in Specification 870,110 and at the same time to ensure that the pulses are of constant length on the tape regardless of the tape speed, a member 5 is advanced to engage a switch member 3 with the pinch-roller 2 which is driving the tape 17 in conjunction with a capstan 1. A bridging contact 8 connects a pair of contacts 11 together for a period corresponding to a determined tape travel to energize pulse generating means as in the parent Specification. A forward limit stop 16 is arranged so that when a flat 14 on the member 3 reaches the pinch-roller 2, drive of the member ceases, to prevent the recording of confusing, multiple pulses. A reset pin (Fig. 1, not shown) on the member 3, engages a rear stop 10 to rotate the member 3 into a position where the next operation of the member 5 will engage its curved surface with the pinch-roller 2 to record the next pulse.
