Abstract
925,230. Duplicating-machines; damping and inking apparatus. ROTAPRINT Ltd., and C. G. KING. Feb. 2, 1961 [Feb. 4, 1960], No. 4059/60. Class 100 (2). A duplicating machine having means for applying ink repellant to a master sheet mounted on the plate cylinder 1 comprises a pivotally mounted reservoir 10 for ink repellant, an absorbent pad 12 adapted to absorb ink repellant from the reservoir, means for pivoting the reservoir between an inoperative position wherein the pad is spaced from the master sheet and an operative position wherein the pad is in contact with the master sheet to apply ink repellant thereto, an inking roller carried in a swingable frame 3 between an inking position for inking the master sheet and an inoperative position spaced therefrom and means connected with said inking roller operates to move the pad into inoperative position as the roller is moved into inking position and prevent the movement of the pad into operative position until the inking roller is withdrawn from inking position. The reservoir 10 and pad 12 are mounted in a frame 9 supported on a rotatable rod 6 which is biased by a spring 6a to the operative position of the pad. Rotation of the rod is effected by a slide member 13 pivotally connected at its lower end by a link 21 to an arm 7 forming part of the frame 9. This slide member, which is guided through the interengagement of a pin 15 fixed to the machine frame with a slot 14 in the member, carries a pivoted actuating lever 16 and a flanged upper end for engagement with a stop member 3a depending from the inking roller frame 3. The lever 16 is spring-loaded upwardly such that a pin 17 thereon abuts an edge of the member 13 and the inner end of the lever is formed with a nose which catches beneath a stop member 20 secured to the machine frame when the lever 16 is depressed such that the slide member 13 moves downwardly allowing the inking roller frame to drop and thus bring the roller into contact with a master sheet on the plate cylinder.' This downward movement of the member 13 swings the pad and reservoir away from the cylinder against the action of the spring 6a, the pad &c. being held in this position by the engaged lever nose and stop 20. Further depression of the lever such that it pivots on the member 13 disengages the nose and stop such that the spring 6a causes the member 13 to move upwardly thereby simultaneously pushing the inking roller away from, and applying the pad &c. to the cylinder 1. During a printing run moistening liquid will be supplied to the master sheet by one of the inking rollers as is well known.
