Abstract

924,943. Pipe-making apparatus. PLASTI-CON PIPE CO. Jan. 13, 1961, No. 1619/61. Class 99(2). [Also in Group XXXVI] Apparatus for the encasement in concrete or other cementitious material of conduits, e.g. metal pipes, electric cables, whilst the conduits lie in a ditch D comprises an elongated skid 20 arranged longitudinally in the ditch with the U-shaped outer surface engaging the bottom and side walls thereof, support means mounted upon the skid 20 for supporting the conduit 12 to be encased by concrete and including transversely and longitudinally spaced rollers 24, a hopper 15 mounted on the skid 20 for depositing the concrete about the conduit 12, a rigid screed trowelling means 18, and a sealing member fixed to the skid and extending downward from a lower opening in the hopper to engage the surface of the conduit 12 to prevent forward leakage of the concrete. The skid is provided with a forward turned-up portion 21 and is pulled along the ditch at a uniform rate by a winch 27. An engine 29 driving a vibrating and tamping mechanism 28 is mounted on the hopper. Reinforcing wire may be wrapped around the conduit 12.
