Abstract

924,375. Shoe upper conforming machines. A. SALA. April 19, 1960 [April 18, 1959; Sept. 26, 1959], No. 13646/60. Class 17 (1). A wiper head for toe-lasting machines has an electrically-heated presser plate and means for air-cooling a pair of wipers. The fork-shaped presser plate 20 is slidably mounted beneath the wipers 15 and is heated by elements 24 controlled by a thermostat 26. On the completion of an over-wiping operation, wipers 15 are momentarily removed from the over-wiped upper margin 16, a catch 34 is released and the heated plate 20 advanced by the action of a spring 30. Plate 20 is withdrawn by the engagement with a member 33 of a roller 36 mounted on a lever 18 which also serves to operate wipers 15. The wiper-cooling means comprises ducts 38 covered by deflecting plates 39 which direct air over the wipers to prevent them from being over-heated by plate 20. Replacement of plate 20 by others suitable for working on shoes of different shapes and sizes may be effected by the removal of a screw 31.
