Abstract

Gelatine suppositories are given a coating of a substance which has lubricating properties when administered. Preferably the coating consists of a natural or synthetic grease or wax together with an emulsifying agent so that when it is moistened by water or mucus an emulsion is formed. Suitable emulsifiable substances include paraffin wax, stearic acid and silicone greases while among suggested emulsifiers are dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate, polyethylene glycols and glycerol monostearate.
