Abstract
The invention comprises an allopregnane of the general formula: <FORM:0924254/IV(a)/1> in which R represents a free or esterified hydroxyl group, Y represents an oxo group, or a hydrogen atom together with a free or esterified hydroxyl group, X represents a chlorine or fluorine atom, or X and Y together represent a hydrogen atom together with a 9,11-epoxide group and a process for the manufacture of a pregnadiene wherein an allopregnane of the above formula is treated with selenium dioxide or selenious acid, and, if desired, in a compound so obtained an 11- and/or 21-hydroxy group is/are esterified or an esterified hydroxyl group is hydrolysed, and/or an 11-hydroxy compound so obtained is dehydrogenated to an 11-oxo compound, and/or chlorine or fluorine is introduced into the 9a -position. Compositions containing compounds of the general formula (wherein R, Y and X are as defined above), which display activity in the hepatic glycogen test and in the granuloma test, are administered enterally or parenterally as tablets, dragees, ampoules, solutions, suspensions or emulsions.
