Abstract

924,195. Projection apparatus for endless films. SVENSKA A.B. VIEW-BOX SYSTEM. March 7; 1961, No. 8226/61. Class 97 (1). In apparatus for projecting endless films, the film is permanently threaded and stored in a magazine having feed and guide means and co-operating with driving means on the projector when the magazine is in the projection position, the magazine being locked in this position by the entry of a part carrying the illuminating means. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, an endless continuously-fed film 26 in a magazine 2 is coiled around a crown of rollers 31 mounted adjacent a turntable 27 carried on a tilted, rigidlymounted platform 30 and the innermost convolution is drawn by feed-sprocket 33 from one of these rollers (32), thereby causing rotation of the turntable, the film being guided back to the outside of the coil by a roller 48. An auxiliary drive may be provided for the turntable. When the magazine 2 is pushed into engagement with the projection unit 1 carrying the projection system 3 comprising a projection lens and mirrors, optical compensating prism 6, driving motor 19 and sound-head 4, 15, the housing 10 of the projection lamp can enter an opening 49 in the magazine to lock the latter in position; the lamp housing 10 is mounted on the arm 8 for vertical adjustment by means of rack 11, pinion 12 and the handle 14. The portion of film between the guide rollers 43 and 44 forms a loop round cylinder 15 as the magazine is locked in position and the increased tension pivots arm 39 to move rod 40 and close switch 23 to start the motor 19 and to energize the lamp. A worm-ended shaft 20 of the motor 22 extends into the magazine to drivingly engage a gear-wheel fast with the feed sprocket 33. An arm 16 of the projection unit 1 carries a sound-drum 15 and flywheel 17, and a magnetic sound pick-up head 18. The projection unit 1 may be housed in a cabinet having a translucent screen, amplifier and loud-speaker. Means may be provided for guiding a magazine into the projection position. The projection unit 1 may be adapted to receive more than one magazine, the optical projection system being then adjustable in position for alignment with the different magazines. Instead of continuous feeding of the film, an intermittent feed arrangement may be employed. An electronoptical scanner may be provided for television purposes.
