Abstract

923,037. Refrigerating. SOC. ANON. DES USINES CHAUSSON. Feb. 22, 1961 [Feb. 23, 1960], No. 6541/61. Class 29. Compression refrigerating apparatus for aircooling a motor vehicle cab, comprises at least two evaporators mounted in series one with another, with one of these evaporators acting for cooling the ventilating air and the second evaporator placed in thermic relation with the condensation section of the refrigerating circuit. The second evaporator is so selected that any non-evaporated liquid refrigerant coming from the first evaporator cannot be conveyed in a liquid form to the compressor inlet. A motor vehicle engine 1 with a radiator 2 and a fan 3 drives a compressor 5 by means of belts 4 and an electromagnetic clutch 16. The compressed refrigerant is condensed in condenser 7 and collected in a liquid state in a receiver 8. The refrigerant is then conveyed by a pipe 9, 9a to a pressostatic expansion valve 10 and an evaporator 11 and then by a pipe 14, 14a, to a second evaporator 15 which is also an integral part of the condenser 7. Cooling air for the engine is drawn by the fan 3 through the evaporator 15 where it is cooled, then through the condener 7 where it acquires heat from the condensing refrigerant, and then through the radiator 2. A fan 12 driven by a motor 13 blows ventilating air for the cab of the vehicle through the evaporator 11. A shunt tube 22 by-passing the second evaporator 15 for a valve 21 controlled by a thermostat 23 sensing the temperature of the refrigerant in the pipe 14a at the outlet of the evaporator 11, (Fig. 4). The valve 21 is opened when the temperature of the refrigerant leaving the evaporator 11 is too high, such as when starting up the apparatus. For permanently regulating the refrigeration, two thermostats 19 and 20 control two switches 19a and 20a respectively, placed in series in the electric circuit of the electromagnetic clutch 16. In a second embodiment (not shown), the second evaporator is placed in the refrigerant receiver 8.
