Abstract
920,946. Momentary-contact switches; time switches. RANCO Inc. Dec. 10, 1959 [Dec. 11, 1958], No. 41995/59. Class 38 (5). An electric timer for the control of a clothes dryer, for example, is provided with an additional switch for short-duration energization of a warning device, such as a buzzer, immediately before the termination of a drying cycle. A cam 16 is loosely journalled on a shaft 15 driven by a geared synchronous motor (Fig. 1, not shown) through a friction clutch such that it can be manually adjusted by a knob (Fig. 1, not shown) carried thereon. A spur 18 secured to the shaft 15 loosely enters an opening 161 in the cam 16 such that the cam is driven with lost motion to permit snap opening of contacts 32, 33 and 33, 35 when the cam follower 37 descends the inclined steps leading to surfaces 21 and 20 respectively. The additional switch comprises a resilient contact arm 40 anchored to the casing at 281, and a fixed contact 41 which carries a nylon screw 48. A rise 24 is psitioned on cam 16 so as to urge an insulating lever 44, pivoted at 45 against arm 40 shortly before contacts 32, 33 are opened. As lever 44 is slowly pushed to the left, arm 40 first engages contact 41 and subsequently screw 48, whereafter the arm 40 flexes about screw 48 such that its end moves away from contact 41. The duration of contact between 40 and 41 is controlled by adjustment of screw 48.
