Abstract
920,822. Taximeters. HALDEX A.B. June 20, 1961 [June 22, 1960], No 22314/61. Classes 106 (1) and 106 (3). The first impulse to an electromagneticallyoperated counter in a taximeter is sent after a predetermined number of rotations of a snail cam, each subsequent rotation of the snail cam sending a further impulse. Initially a bell-crank lever 19 is held in clockwise position by engagement with a lug 21. When cam disc 11 is rotated by clockwork or by motion of the vehicle and lever 9 falls from the high point the lever 19 is swept over the lug 21 so that its end 20 falls between a predetermined pair of teeth on a ratchet-wheel 36. At each rotation of cam disc 11 the end 20 of lever 19 advances the ratchet-wheel 36 one step until, after a predetermined number of steps, it falls into a larger gap 43 to engage the end of a lever 23 pivoted on lever 9. The other end of the lever 23 closes contacts 4, 5 to energize electromagnet 2 to advance the counter, Fig. 5. The counter swings lever 31 counter-clockwise to lift the end of lever 19 out of engagement with the end of lever 23 whereby the contacts 4, 5 reopen. When the cam disc 11 again lifts lever 9 to its high point levers 19 and 23 re-engage so that a further impulse is sent to the counter for each subsequent rotation of cam disc 11. Resetting is effected by mechanism (not shown) which engages projection 15 on lever 9 to give it a larger movement, ratchet-wheel 36 being set to its predetermined initial position by mechanism not shown. This position corresponds to the initial distance for which a minimum charge is made.
