920,338. Coding devices. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Nov. 23, 1960 [Sept. 18, 1959], No. 31840/59. Class 146 (2). [Also in Group XXXVIII] A device for decoding numbers in binary code comprises one or more base sheets 6, each bearing the decimal numbers corresponding to one combination of the four more significant digits and a pack of blanks 7a-7f having a pattern of opaque portions and transparent parts such as holes 9. The sheets and blanks are relatively slidable and may be illuminated from below by a lamp 10 or other means. As shown, plungers 4 bear indication of the sixteen combinations of the four more significate digits and the appropriate sheet is selected by sliding the plunger 4, a peg 4a of which engaging a hole 4b and moves the selected sheet so that its decimal numbers can be viewed through holes 6a in the other sheets. Plungers 5 are similarly moved to position the blanks 7a-7f in their 0 or 1 positions according to the less significate digits. These movements align holes 9 to display the decimal number corresponding to be binary code set in one of the apertures 2 of a mask 1. In holes 3a, 3b, the more or less significate digits of the binary number set are also displayed. The plungers 4, 5 may be set by solenoids operated from a keyboard or by incoming digital signals.
