A tumbler drier comprises a non-rotational and tiltable housing having a front wall with an opening therein, a rotational, apertured drum disposed within and tiltable with the housing and having a cylindrical open end partly projecting through the opening, an air seal between the outer surface of the projecting drum end and front wall of the housing and closure means for the opening which co-operate with the seal to close the drum opening in an air-tight manner. A tumbler drier comprises a non-rotatable and tiltable drum housing 8 having a front opening 32 through which partially extends the cylindrical open end 49 of a drum 13 having a perforated cylindrical wall 46 and perforated tumbling vanes 50. The drum is rotated through a drive shaft 51 and is tiltable with the housing. A seal 53 provides an air-tight joint between the housing and drum end, and horizontal guides 57 on the front wall 31 of the housing carry a pair of sliding doors 56 to close the drum opening 49. Hot air provided by gas burners, not shown, or steam pipes in a modification, is circulated by a fan (not shown) through a duct 10 conforming to the curvature of the housing wall 29 which terminates in a curved hood 38 opening into the top of the housing, downwardly through the drum and an opening 28 in the lower portion of the housing to an air-box 44 therebelow.
