Abstract
A laminated polyester sign having parts in relief is manufactured by pouring one or more self-coloured liquid hardenable polyester resins, comprising a polyester resin, a peroxide catalyst and accelerator, into depressions in a mould, allowing the resin or resins to gel, applying a backing coat of self-coloured harderable polyester paste over the whole area of the mould, allowing the backing coat to gel, applying thereto one or more layers of glass fibre and impregnating the layers before or after application with hardenable polyester resin, allowing the resulting laminate to cure and removing it from the mould. The resins may be of different colours produced with red mineral pigment or inert dye and be a mixture of equal proportions by weight of hard polyester resin and flexible polyester resin. The backing web may comprise a hard thixotropic polyester paste mixed with hard and flexible polyester resins and a filler such as alumina. The glass fibre layers are impregnated either individually or as a whole laminate before or after introduction into the mould. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 762,052.
