Abstract

<PICT:0918822/IV (b)/1> <PICT:0918822/IV (b)/2> <PICT:0918822/IV (b)/3> <PICT:0918822/IV (b)/4> <PICT:0918822/IV (b)/5> <PICT:0918822/IV (b)/6> Plant for treating fibrous textile material comprises means for laying the material to be treated in a series of overlapping laps, means for impregnating the deposited material with a liquid and means for washing and wringing said laps after impregnation. A conveyer 6 comprising a series of articulated metal segments having perforated bottoms, Fig. 3, runs between polygonal drums 5, 51 on a frame 1. One end of the frame is pivoted on a pin 2 and the other end is supported by wheels 4, 41 running on an arcuate rail. The conveyer channel 6 is moved by pawls on a pin 25 on each side of each segment engaging a reciprocating rack 22 and to avoid interruption of the forward motion two racks reciprocating in opposite directions may be provided at each side of the conveyer. The material to be bleached passes in the form of a lap from a scutcher to rollers 7, 71 which deposit it in overlapping layers, i.e. in condensed form, in the conveyer channel due to the forward motion thereof and to the swinging movement of the frame 1. The lap is impregnated by liquid sprayed by cylinders 9, . . , 14 arranged above suction chambers 15, . . , 20. Each cylinder comprises a hollow axle 31, Fig. 6, having a row of apertures extending longitudinally thereof and which carries a shell 32 having a slit 33. The cylinder is supported by forks (not shown) to allow vertical movement thereof but not rotation. A rotatable, perforated metal shell 34 surrounds the shell 32. When the material has become more permeable the suction chambers are omitted and the liquid is sprayed by perforated pipes 21 and collected in a trough 211. The fibrous material is wrung out by passing the conveyer 6 through wringers 23, 231 and 24, 241, the rollers 23, 24 being loaded. The material is washed and rinsed by water supplied through a second set of pipes 21. The bleached lap is broken up by passing it through a willowing machine. The material then passes to a washing and rinsing device, Fig. 9, comprising a drum 51 having a narrow strip of perforations 511 and rotated through rings 52, 53, 54. A pipe 58 having a row of apertures sprays water on to the drum diametrically opposite to the perforations 511 through which some of the dirty water is expelled upon rotation of the drum. An automatic control device comprising cups 63, 64 beneath funnels 61, 62 controls the water inlet valve (not shown) to maintain the water level inside the drum at a predetermined level. A helical wall 59 forms a screw to feed the fibrous material and inclined blades 60 to mix the material are also provided. The fibrous material then passes to a high pressure wringer, Fig. 12, comprising an endless screen belt 71 to convey the soaked material to a perforated metal roll 72 upon which a metal roll 73 having rubber tyres 75 therearound rests and is pressed thereagainst by hydraulic rams 74. The material may then be treated with softening agents or dyed by being passed through a device similar to the drum 51, then wrung out by a high pressure wringer and may then be given a second willowing. The fibrous material may be automatically centrifuged (see Group XIII) by two identical machines, Fig. 13 (not shown). The material is then opened up as staple and dried.
