Abstract

918,781. Joining twine. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). May 19, 1959 [Feb. 20, 1958], No. 5495/58. Class 109. [Also in Group XVII] In a machine for applying twine around a bundle (see Group XVII) the overlapping ends of the twine are wound with wire by means as described in Specification 756,960, causing two wire applying spindles 222, that surround the twine, to rotate in opposite directions whilst being moved apart along the length of the twine. The machine includes ejector arms 85, 86 that are automatically moved forward on completion of the join to eject the bound ends from the spindles 222, and a twine control arm 88 that is operated prior to each twine binding cycle to ensure that the overlapping portions of twine are correctly oriented in relation to the wireapplying spindles 222. Specification 717,198 also is referred to.
