Abstract

918,233. Range-viewfinders. VOIGTLANDER A.G. Feb. 2, 1959 [March 12, 1958], No. 3616/59. Classes 97 (1) and 98 (1). A range-viewfinder has a short home base rangefinder combined with an " Albada " viewfinder in which the beam splitter of the rangefinder, which is inclined to the viewfinder axis, is spaced at a distance from the part-transparent concave mirror of the " Albada " viewfinder which is equal to <SP>2</SP>/ 5 or less of the focal length of this mirror and a gap is provided in the reflective coating of the concave mirror so dimensioned that the rangefinder images are both formed by rays which pass through or are reflected at only one part transparent reflecting surface. In the range-viewfinder shown in Fig. 7 the viewfinder comprises an objective 22, a concave half-silvered mirror 28 having a gap 29, which may be elliptical or any other shape, a frame 26 and an eye-piece 21. The range-finder comprises a wedge 37, 36, mirror 35 and a halfsilvered mirror 30, one end of which adjoins part of the concave mirror and the other part extends beyond the edge of the gap. In other embodiments the beam splitter may be placed behind, in front of, or at the centre of the gap 29; it may be formed on a lens which is placed adjacent to and in front of or behind the gap. Moreover, if the ends of the beam splitter overlap the edges of the gap, either one or both may be connected to said edges either directly or by a half-silvered mirror, or this mirror can be arranged as shown in Fig. 11.
