Abstract

3-(2-Ethyl-2-nitrovinyl)-indole is prepared by condensing indole-3-carboxaldehyde and 1-nitropropane in the presence of ammonium acetate at a temperature between 70 DEG C. and the boiling point of the reaction mixture, the water produced in the condensation being removed from the reaction mixture by entrainment in a continuous stream of an inert gas. Specification 807,876 is referred to.
