Abstract

917,684. Oscillating motors. HAYWARD, T. W. April 25, 1960, No. 14457/60. Class 35. An electromagnetic screen vibrator comprises a polyphase magnet assembly 1 and a resiliently supported armature 6 to which an eccentric circular motion is imparted. The supports consist of rubber, annular, members, V-shaped in longitudinal section, secured to the ends of the magnet assembly and the armature and their thickness or position may be varied to compensate for the weight of the supported parts. The electromagnet cores 3 and the armature 6 are frusto-conical at their opposed surfaces so that relative longitudinal movement, e.g. by fitting shims, adjusts the air gap between them. Energizing coils 4 are connected to polyphase A.C., half-wave rectified. The armature has cooling fins 8 and is connected to a screen, not shown, and has a lower inertia than that of the magnet assembly; its inertia may be further reduced by making it of light construction with armature inserts opposite the cores 3 only. Alternative arrangements are mentioned in which the electromagnets surround the armature, the screen being attached to whichever part has the lower inertia.
