A centrifugal separator for separating a main and less dense liquid component from a mixture, such as fuel from a water-fuel mixture or oil from a dirty oil mixture, comprises a hollow rotor 18, Fig. 1, rotatably mounted in a housing 12 and provided with an inlet 50 and with at least one outlet pipe 58, Fig. 2, which extends radially from the axis of the rotor and is provided with an inlet aperture 62 at or adjacent the rotor axis and an outlet opening 60 through the outer wall 22 of the rotor, the interior of the rotor being unobstructed so that there is a clear path from the axis of rotation out through the outlet pipe whereby when the rotor is rotated and the mixture is fed through the inlet 50, the heavier component or components are thrown outwards centrifugally and collect on the inside of the wall 22 and the separated lighter liquid component flows from the axis of rotation through the pipe 58 into the housing 12. The rotor is supported in bearings 30, 36 in the housing and is driven through splines by a shaft 42 connected by splines 44 to a source of power. A circular baffle 52 secured to the end 26 of the rotor directs the entering mixture towards the inner surface of the wall 22 which is provided with circumferentially spaced vanes 56. The pipes 58 extend in equiangularly spaced positions diametrically across the interior of the rotor and are anchored by their flared ends 60 into the wall 22. Alternatively, the pipes may have a length equal to the rotor radius. Each pipe has two arcuate apertures 62 on opposite sides of the rotor axis. The lighter liquid component is continuously discharged from the interior of the housing through an outlet 66.
