Abstract

917,136. Optical projection apparatus. SCHLOSSER, W. July 6, 1961 [July 13, 1960], No. 24551/61. Class 97 (1). In an optical projector having means for guiding a film strip, the guiding means comprises a separate channel for engaging and guiding each of two opposite edges of the film strip, each channel being set at an acute angle to the plane of the film strip at least in the region of that portion of the film strip which is to be projected, so that a stress is applied at least to the said portion of the film strip in the plane of the said portion. As shown, the guiding means comprises a plate 4 provided with a cylindrical portion 7, guide flanges 5, gate 3, and a bent-over portion 6 forming film-guiding channels, which, at least in the region of the aperture 3, are inclined to the plane of the plate 4 (Fig. 3) and thereby prevent film in said aperture from buckling due to heating during projection. The film strip in use is accommodated as a coil in portion 7 and is fed past the gate 3 by resilient rollers 12 arranged to engage only the margins of the film and mounted on a spindle 10 spring- urged towards the plate 4 and having a manipulating knob 11. The portion 7 is provided with either closed ends or lugs 8 for locating the coil of film and further may be provided with annular ridges 9 arranged to engage only the margins of the film and thereby to prevent scratching of the film image areas. The plate 4 is supported in a frame 1 which may be removably accommodated in the projector.
