[Also in Group XL (a)] A pulsating light source may be associated with the gate of a film projector so that an intense beam of light is directed on to the gate while the film is stationary, and the reduced intensity beam is largely diverted from the gate during movement of the film, whereby the usual flicker shutter may possibly be dispensed with. As shown, the normal discharge path between electrodes 2, 3 of lamp 1 is located at the focus of a mirror 7, and an electromagnet 10 is energized in series with contacts 11 which are operated by a can associated with the film projector, so that during movement of the film the discharge path is deflected away from the mirror focus and also lengthened and thus diminished in intensity.
