Abstract

916,896. Axial-flow compressors. SZYDLOWSKI, J. Jan. 23, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1960], No. 2627/61. Class 110 (1). The camber line S 4 , Fig. 4, of each impeller blade of an axial-flow compressor operating at ultrasonic or supersonic speed has curvatures near the leading edge 5 and trailing edge 6 with centres of curvature at Q and S respectively, whereby the pressure surface of the blade is convex near the leading edge and concave near the trailing edge. The convex and concave portions of the surface are joined together tangentially. Alternatively, they are connected by a flat portion 7, Fig. 5, tangent to both of them. As shown in Fig. 5, the blade is twisted so that the chordal pitch decreases from root to tip, the pitch angle reaching a value at the tip of about 65 degrees with respect to the axis of rotation.
