Abstract

916,843. Binaural systems. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 24, 1959 [Jan. 24, 1958], No. 2405/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] To facilitate the aural monitoring of telegraph signals, e.g. Morse, in the presence of unwanted signals on adjacent frequencies use is made of the binaural effect. The operator adjusts his receiver to give the signals to be monitored at a suitable audio frequency, and the audio output of the receiver is fed through separate channels to the ear-pieces of the operator's headphones. The channels are arranged to have differing delay-frequency and/or gain-frequency characteristics but to produce like outputs at the chosen audio frequency. In this manner, at that chosen frequency the signal appears to come from a source directly in front of the operator, whereas higher or lower frequency signals appear to originate to one side or the other of the operator. The Specification describes several forms of delay line.
