Abstract

916,194. Spinning yarns. MOULINAGE ET RETORDERIE DE CHAVANOZ Jan. 30, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1960], No. 3518/61. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). A machine for producing voluminous i.e. modified, false-twist crimped, yarns comprises a frame carrying for each yarn two heating elements and a false-twisting spindle positioned therebetween and so controlled and mounted that the false-twist runs back into the heating zone of the first element, and carrying feed devices in front of each heating element and behind the second element. Superposed let-off and take-up creels may be carried in a second frame. In a double-sided machine, one side only of which is shown, each yarn 5 is drawn from a package 4 of a magazine creel, through a guide 8, tensioning device 9 and guide 10, and passes under a platform 13 which is slotted to facilitate threading up and separates frames formed by uprights 1, 2, and 14. The yarn is drawn through guide 16 by a driven feed device 17, passes through a convex tubular heating element 18 (the material of which may constitute a heating resistance as described in Specification 809,479) thence through a falsotwisting spindle 22 and to a second driven feed device 23 the speed of which is adjustable to allow a predetermined shrinkage in the yarn, dependent on count, false-twist speed in relation to linear speed of yarn, temperature of element 18 and the chemical nature of the yarn. From device 23, the yarn is drawn by a third driven feed device 25, the speed of which is adjustable, through a second heating element 24. The heaters are controlled to a maximum temperature variation of about 1‹ C. and the temperature of the second heat treatment may be lower than that of the first. The relative speeds of the devices 23 and 25 are such as to permit contraction e.g. 15-20%, of the yarn. From device 25, yarn passes through guide 26, overhead to guide 27, 28, and to traversing guide 29 for winding into a package 31a. The drive for winding rollers 30 and guides 29 may be derived e.g. by chain and sprocket transmission (not shown) from the main drive for operating devices 17, 23 and 25. The heaters may be straight heated tubes or casings filled with hot air. Specifications 745,337, 772,346 and 787,619 also are referred to.
