[Also in Group XIX] An optical apparatus for projecting the profiles of two flat sections of a body on to a screen, comprises means for illuminating the two sections and a reflector, comprising several plane mirrors attached by magnetic adhesion to a support, arranged so as to form a virtual image of one profile in the plane of the other profile, said plane being at the focal point of an objective which projects the images on to said screen. As shown in Fig. 1 the object, e.g. a turbine blade, is held on a support 12 and can be moved in directions F1, F2, F3. It is illuminated by a series of lamps (not shown) arranged in supports 23, placed in a circle round the object, and each carrying two objectives 24, 25, one of which is movable in a direction parallel to axis O, to direct light on to the two sections of the object. Light from the section illuminated by objectives 24 passes through an objective 18 which focuses it on screen 21 but light from the sector illuminated by objectives 25 is reflected by the reflector 27 described below and the image thus formed is focused on screen 21 by the objective 18. The reflector 27 comprises (Fig. 2) several glass mirrors 60 attached by magnets to two sectors 40, 41 which are movably attached to a base 42 by means of grooves 44 and pins 57, 58 which pass through curved slots 55, 56 in a plate 49 attached to the base and vertical slots 45 in the base. Therefore when the base 42 and plate 49 are rotated by means of a cord 46 attached to them by pins 50 and 51 and adjusted by knob 47 the sectors 40, 41 can be moved to . enclose the object A. The mirrors 60 can then be easily adjusted to the shape of the object. The reflector can be adjusted in the direction of axis O since it is attached to a sleeve which can be moved by a measured amount along a rod 26 (Fig. 1). Specification 724,562 is referred to.
