Abstract
915,376. Automatic temperature control systems. ROTAX Ltd. July 26, 1961 [Aug. 15, 1960], No. 28129/60. Class 38 (4). An automatic temperature control apparatus for a vehicle heating system in which the vehicle is heated by air which passes over the vehicle engine radiator comprises a reversible electric motor 8 which drives baffles 11, 12 to opposite ends of two radiators 3, 4 so that more or less heated air is admitted into the vehicle by way of the aperture 13, the motor 8 being controlled over two circuits, one of which includes a limit switch 18 which is opened when the baffles 11, 12 reach their extreme separated positions to admit the maximum amount of heated air, the other circuit including a limit switch 18 which is opened when the baffles 11, 12 reach their extreme adjacent positions when no heated air is admitted, the system also including a mercury thermometer situated in the vehicle, which controls two relays 19, 20, the relay 19 opening contacts 19a if the temperature in the vehicle reaches a temperature represented by the level 21 on the mercury thermometer to stop the motor before limit switch 17 is opened whilst relay 20 closes contacts 20a if the temperature in the vehicle reaches a temperature represented by a level 22 on the mercury thermometer to allow the motor 8 to drive the baffles towards each other to reduce the amount of air admitted to the vehicle. The levels 21, 22 may represent- 68‹ F. and 72‹ F. respectively.
