915,073. Improving commutation in dynamoelectric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 25, 1961 [April 25, 1960], No. 14413/60. Class 35. In a commutator machine in which the commutator has active and inactive segments 2, 3 and the brushes each comprise a plurality of part-brushes 5, 6 of which at least one engages an active segment at all times, the spacing of the part-brushes is such that at the instant an active segment leaves a part brush the current flowing between them has been reduced to zero by the induced E.M.F. in the coils undergoing commutation. This condition is satisfied if d= 1.5 (a+b) - c. Circulating currents are prevented by rectifiers 8, 9. Specification 904,775 is referred to.
