Abstract

914,969. Cementation. TO-A KAKO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. March 29, 1960 [Sept. 15, 1959], No. 11095/60. Class 72. A method of cementation of a metal article comprises immersing the article in a fluidized bed of fine carbon particles and passing an electric current from the fluidized bed to the article, the bed being at a positive potential in relation to the article. As shown, a vessel 1 has a porous plate 2 supporting a bed of fine carbon particles which may be fluidized by the passage of a carburizing gas, e.g. methane, through the plate from an inlet 3. The article 5 to be cemented is supported between two electrodes 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and a steady or pulsating direct current passed between the electrodes and the article.
