914,676. Treating edges of fabrics. ALLSOP, A. June 7, 1961 [June 24, 1960], No. 22134/60. Class 42 (1). A method of treating the edges of cut fabric comprises forming a stack 14 of pieces 12 of fabric cut to the required size, clamping the fabric so as to leave the edges thereof and the adjacent marginal portions free, which edges are sprayed with an adhesive, releasing the stack and allowing the fabric to dry. The fabric is stacked on a rotatable table 13 having an adjustable top 15 covered with aluminium. A clamping-plate 16 comprising a wooden block 18 having an aluminium cover 19 is placed on the stack 14 to leave the marginal edges of the fabric free. The plate 16 is manually pressed down and an adhesive, e.g. a solution of polyvinyl alcohols in water or a latex solution, is sprayed on to the edges 21 of the stack. The concentration of the solution end/or spraying pressure may be varied to suit the different absorptive qualities of different materials. The plate 16 may have a rotatable hand grip. The table 13 may be rotated manually or by a motor. The spraying may be performed by a spray gun or automatically. The method is applicable to the fabric of pattern cards, Fig. 1, or to dusters.
