The usual sealing door 1 (Fig. 4) for the mouth of a dustbin tipped into a vehicle 11 is biased to its closed position by arms 17 (Fig. 2) mounted at each end of the shaft 2 of the door and each connected to a pair of rods 19 provided with biasing helical springs 23. The device is of the type in which the movement of the door 1 causes an inner door 6 (Fig. 4) to swing about an upper hinge 5 on the door 1 to open the lid of the bin; as shown, the movement of the door is effected by a pin-and-slot connection 15 to a link 14 connected to a shutter 8, 9 within which the lid 1 moves until stops 7 on the lid engage rubber blocks 13 on the cowling to cause the cowlings to rotate with the lid. The rods 19 (Fig. 2) slide within abutments 20 for the springs 23: a handle 21 permits the position of the abutments 22 to be altered so that the initial compression of the springs 23 may be reduced when loading is to be effected manually.
