Abstract

913,986. Self-advancing yarn reels. COURTAULDS Ltd. July 17, 1959 [July 18, 1958], No. 23076/58. Class 120 (2). In a self-advancing yarn reel the spindle 1 is journalled in a stationary member 9 which is adapted to be engaged with a mating stationary part 17 of a textile machine by a movement substantially parallel to the spindle axis, so as to mount the reel in the machine, the spindle 1 carrying one element 5 of a positive clutch, the other element 6 of which is on a driving-shaft 7 journalled in the machine, one of the clutch elements (e.g. element 5) being axially spring- loaded, preferably by a bellows 3, and the clutch being totally enclosed when the reel is in operation. As shown in Fig. 3, the portion 16 of the reel which engages the stationary part 17 has a shaped slot 19 adapted to be engaged by a lug 18 on part 17 ; the portion 16 can take up two connected positions, one with the lug in position 20 in which case the reel is attached to the machine, but the clutch is not engaged and the other with the lug at position 21 in which case the clutch is engaged and the reel is driven. The clutch is totally enclosed by means of the guard 10 and the resilient seals 12. Handles 11 are attached to the cup 10 for easy manipulation of the reel.
