Abstract
913,891. Hydraulic apparatus. KEELAVITE CO. Ltd. July 13, 1960 [April 20, 1959], No. 13457/59. Class 69 (2). An hydraulic system comprises a positive-displacement hydraulic motor 1, 2 arranged to be operated through a range of movement in either direction, velocity control means 32, 33, 34, 35, arranged to restrict the flow of fluid to or from the motor to reduce the velocity of the motor during part of its range of movement if the velocity tends to exceed a datum value, and means 57 for varying the datum value in accordance with the position of the motor in the said part of its range of movement. The motor, which may drive a radar antenna, consists of a piston 2 reciprocatable in a cylinder 1 having chambers 6, 7 connected by lines 8, 9 and valves 17, 32, 33, 34, 35 to lines 10, 11 leading from a swash-plate or other type of pump 12 which is driven by an electric motor 13 and has an arm 14 controlled by an electronic device 15 so that as the arm is moved from A to B, the output of the pump is progressively decreased from a maximum in one direction until, in a central position C, the flow ceases and then progressively increases to a maximum in the opposite direction to reciprocate the piston in the cylinder. The valves 32 . . . 35 are only effective at the ends of the stroke of the piston if the piston exceeds its desired stroke. When this occurs, say in the movement of the piston to the right when fluid is supplied from the pump through line 10, valves 32, 33 and line 9 to the chamber 7, a cam 57 is displaced by a projection 61 on a member 62 secured to the rod 3 of the piston to move a piston 56 upwardly and restrict an orifice 55 in the valve 34 to cause a pressure differential in lines 40, 65 connected to opposite sides of a piston 43 in the valve 35, the piston moving downwardly against a spring 46 so that a part 41 restricts an orifice 37 to reduce or stop flow from the chamber 6 of the motor. If the orifice closes, a pressure differential occurs in lines 51, 52 leading from opposite sides of the orifice and acts on a spool 24 in a valve 25 and thereby on the spool 20a of the valve 17 so that the lines 10, 11 from the pump are connected together and the supply to the motor discontinued; the valves 17, 20 are arranged to be returned to their original position under manual control. A pressurerelief valve 48 limits the value of the maximum pressure differential across the piston 43 to limit the deceleration of the piston of the motor. The system is duplicated so that the same control is effected at the other end of the stroke of the piston. A reservoir 66 is provided to replenish losses caused by leakage.
