Abstract

913,308. Stereotactic apparatus. ALLEN & HANBURYS Ltd. June 29, 1960 [July 16, 1959], No. 24499/59. Class 81 (2). A surgical stereotactic instrument comprises a crest frame 1 for securing over the head in the median longitudinal plane thereof, sights 17, 18 carried by the frame and adjustable in position together, and electrode supporting means adjustably carried by the frame. The frame 1 is secured on the head by pointed locating screws 2 which engage conical holes in screws fixed in the head. A carriage 4 is slidable on the frame and carries a telescopically adjustable column 6 which supports a cross arm 12 horizontally above the head. The sights 17, 18 for radiographically locating the point of the brain to be treated, are positioned at each side of the head and are carried by the cross-arm. The sights are movable backwards and forwards by sliding the carriage in the frame and upwards and downwards by altering the height of the column 6 and may be rotated relative to the cross-arm by adjusting the support column radially in the longitudinal plane of the head by means of worm gearing rotated by a screw 10. A guide tube 22 is carried by a sleeve 21 which is adjustably slidable on a cylinder 28 transversely of the head so that the guide tube may be located in a plane passing through the point to be treated. The guide tube is also rotatable with the support column so that its axis may be adjusted to pass through the point to be treated. An electrode 14 or other treating device is slidable in a slot 13 in the cross-arm in the guide tube and in a hole in the head, an adjustable stop 24 on the electrode abutting the crossarm when the penetrating end of the electrode has reached the point to be treated. A handle 25 with two hand grips extends from the frame 1.
