Abstract

912,850. Coating wire. KABELWERK WILHELMENHOF A.G. Feb. 16, 1961 [Feb. 20, 1960], No. 5831/61. Class 140. An apparatus for coating wires or cables with liquid, e.g. lacquer, comprises a pad 36, 37 connected to an adjustable metering pump, e.g. a fuel injection pump, which delivers a predetermined quantity of liquid. The liquid is delivered by a pipe 9 to a chamber 41 in a holder 32, the liquid passing to the pads 36, 27 via tubes 40 in a plate 39 supporting the pad 36. The wire is passed continuously between the pad 36 and the pad 37 which is carried by a cover 38. An arm 45 on a lever 44 connected to a member 10 prevents the swinging up of the cover 38 until the member 10 is moved to actuate the valve in the pipe 9 to by-pass liquid to a lateral bore 43. The wire traverses the apparatus more than once, passing through a drying oven after each traverse. In a modification, see Fig. 5 (not shown), the pad 36 is replaced by two horizontally spaced pads defining a chamber between them to which liquid passes from the chamber 41.
